Despite having worked a 12-hour shift, directly followed by a 10-hour drive, Rendell set the fastest 125 laps in free practice on Friday. On Saturday Rendell had a slight off reducing quail one to 5 laps. Fortunately an early fast lap secured grid position ahead of the other 125’s. Weather conditions prevented improvement in quail two and Rendell remained top of the 125 pack.
On Sunday Rendell had a perfect race start. Following the 250 of Weaving it was clear the 125 could not contend with the power of the moto3. Leading the 125’s Rendell eased off the gas, finishing fifth overall (first in his 125 category).
Rendell reports: 'Well after a 1200mile round trip to knockhill and back, it certainly made it worth it all! After a small slip off in qualifying, we were lucky to stay in 4th place on the 2nd row, and after damaging our best exhaust, we had to make put with a slightly less powerful one, neither the less, I was confident we could come away with the win, even if my stomach was somersaulting all morning long come race day! I had a huge slide coming out of the hairpin first lap and was lucky to stay on in the race, but eventually got a nice gap and had an easy race to the end! Once again, many thanks to all the team and everyone who has donated and helped me, especially Neil Durham!! We now have a nice lead in the championship now, and I'm looking forward to brands in a few weeks time'
Rendell extends his championship lead, 41 points ahead of Taz Taylor. The next round of the 2014 MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship is the Big Brands Bash - three days on the Brands Hatch Grand Prix circuit 18/19/20 July.
